20 August 2024, Hong Kong, China – Chow Tai Fook Jewellery (Chow Tai Fook), the leading Chinese Jeweller, today announced the debut of the ‘Chow Tai Fook Palace Museum Collection’. The Collection represents a shared vision to preserve and showcase the beauty of Chinese culture and traditions to the world, featuring mesmerising gold jewellery designs inspired by the Palace Museum’s treasured pieces under the strategic partnership of Chow Tai Fook and The Palace Museum.
Founded in 1929, Chow Tai Fook is recognised globally as an icon of Chinese culture and is unwaveringly committed to preserving the Chinese heritage through craftsmanship and innovation – bringing the spirit and essence of traditions to the current era through modern artistry. The Chow Tai Fook Palace Museum Collection brings together wearable works of art that elevate the conservation of Chinese traditions to a new level.
A Collaboration to Preserve Chinese Heritage
On 5 December 2023, Chow Tai Fook and the Palace Museum embarked on a new strategic partnership that aims to protect, study, and conserve Chinese culture as embodied by the Forbidden City. Home to over 1.86 million artefacts, the Forbidden City is the world’s largest and best-preserved wooden palace that encapsulates the craftsmanship of ancient Chinese artisans. The exciting collaboration between Chow Tai Fook and the Palace Museum will serve to promote Chinese heritage and facilitate cultural exchange worldwide.
“The Palace Museum’s high-quality development relies on the support and participation of all sectors of society. In recent years, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery has invested a lot of resources into harnessing cultural innovation and has made outstanding progress in driving China’s creative transformation and innovative development, demonstrating a strong sense of social responsibility,” said Lou Wei, Executive Deputy Director of the Palace Museum.
“Chow Tai Fook has long been committed to the preservation of traditional Chinese gold craftsmanship and the promotion of Chinese culture through innovation. Leveraging our extensive global network, we remain steadfast in our mission to highlight the exquisite beauty of Chinese culture on the world stage,” said Sonia Cheng, Vice-chairman, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group.
Chow Tai Fook Palace Museum Collection: Where Art Transcends Time
As the Chinese house of timeless craft and beauty, Chow Tai Fook is extending its 95-year legacy of quality and integrity to create one-of-a-kind pieces that can be passed down from generation to generation.
With the introduction of the Chow Tai Fook Palace Museum Collection, the brand will illuminate Chinese heritage, showcasing traditions through contemporary designs fused with ancient gold crafting techniques. This transformation of historical museum artifacts into iconic creations seamlessly bridges the past and present, making them ideal for styling and everyday wear.
Inspired by the Palace Museum’s imperial artifacts and treasures, the collection’s Gold Pendant with Gemstones is undoubtedly a wearable piece of history. The pendant features an outer gold and jade circular band with an inner band reflecting a dragon riding on the clouds on one side, and two dragons playing with a pearl on the other. The pendant is created using ancient Chinese gold crafting techniques – from filigree to granulation and features various precious gemstones such as green jade, diamonds and malachite stones. This colourful masterpiece symbolises good fortune and is the ultimate expression of grandeur.
Delicately crafted with a three-dimensional sculpture of a lion’s head, the Gold and Gemstone Bangle comes with an adjustable twirling-rope ring that features a dazzling display of lazurite, malachite, and south red agate stones to create an alluring contrast between gold and coloured gemstones. Using a combination of gold crafting techniques, the bracelet’s edge is decorated with round drum nails with an inner lining embellished with fine filigree – creating a masterpiece that seamlessly intertwines Chinese culture, craftsmanship, and innovation.
The gold and gemstone Butterfly Pendant brings the Museum’s treasured painting of the begonia and butterfly to life. Inspired by the delicate form of the butterfly, this piece is comprised of three distinctive layers: an outer layer featuring a polished gold edge with a netted filigree, a middle layer with a beaded edge and two pearls on each side, and an inner layer with a whirling pattern filigree and an edge adorned with green enamel and two round diamonds. The centre of the pendant is also embellished with rubellite and pearl. Meticulously crafted, this piece of art symbolises harmony, good fortune, health and longevity.
